Understanding, Support and Encouragement
Attending a support group gives survivors and their loved ones a chance to meet others who are dealing with a brain tumor in their life. Understanding and insight from others with similar experiences gives a sense of not being alone with your fear, confusion, anger, and hope. Feeling comfortable enough to discuss your brain tumor openly can provide tremendous relief, and a chance to help others as well.
Privacy and Confidentiality
There is never any pressure to talk or share before you feel ready. Personal information shared in the group remains in the group.
Guest Speakers
Presentations from medical professionals provide the support group with vital information and a chance to ask questions in a relaxed atmosphere. Speakers from health related fields offer a sense of balance to how we view our health care options. Some recent topics from guest speakers include: neurosurgery, radiation oncology, acupuncture, physical therapy, speech pathology, neuropathology, nutrition, and yoga.
Outings and Events
We get together just for fun at our annual Holiday Party. Other past special events have included trips to sporting events such as VCU basketball, and the Richmond Flying Squirrels.
Quarterly Newsletter
The CureBT Buzz brings you fresh news for each season of the year. Recent features have included research updates, summaries of recent support group events, and reports on special events here in Central Virginia. A schedule of events gives you reminder copy to post between meetings.
Expectations
Attendance is your decision – feel free to come to every meeting, or as time, health and interest allow. There is no official membership for the group, and no membership fees. If you would like to be included in our mailing list for the quarterly newsletter, and for email updates, please submit your contact information by clicking on Contact Us. When attending the support group, please keep all groups sharing confidential, and be considerate of the needs of others to share their thoughts and feelings.
